I Love My Job

Dr. Randy Carlson

On Labor Day, you’re probably celebrating the holiday away from the pressures and demands of work. Hopefully, you’re enjoying time with family and friends.

As you’re relaxing, it’s also a good time to think about where you are and where you want to be in your career. Maybe you have a difficult, physically demanding job. Perhaps you have opportunities to be promoted in the near future. So, where do you want to be tomorrow, or next year?

Suggestions to help, whatever stage you’re in your career, beginner or advanced:

  • Find meaning in what seems meaningless. Many things about your job are beneficial to you and make a difference for others. Think about them. Be sure they’re ingrained in your mind and heart. You can do your job well, even if you’re doing something you don’t like, or working with people who fail to motivate you.
  • Operate out of your strengths. Your gifts and strengths are where you’re going to find the greatest return on the investment of your time in all roles in your life, including those at work. Find new ways to utilize these strengths as you go about your workday.
  • End strong. When you close the book at the end of the day, be able to say, “I helped somebody. I encouraged someone. I built into someone’s life.” Strive to do this with your co-workers and supervisors.

30-Day Challenge

If you could do ONE THING and know that it would make a significant, lasting, possibly life-changing difference in your life, would you do it? Dr. Carlson shares the power of ONE THING and why you should get started doing your ONE THING today.
