It Matters How You Measure Moments

We have about 20,000 moments in a day. That’s more than the number of seconds in a day. So, you are constantly experiencing moments, measured often in milliseconds. You could have 100 moments a day: some more, some less. And every one of those moments demands a decision, clarity in the direction of your life and some form of action.

We measure success after the crossroads of a temptation in life – success or failure.

Moments strung together make your day, days flow together into a year and the culmination of your years make up your lifetime on earth.

We live in a fallen world, which means we will have both successful moments and miserably failed
moments in our lives.

  • You can’t get around it.
  • You shouldn’t focus on being perfect because only God is perfect.
  • But you want to experience more moments of victory and less moments of failure when it comes to the really important things in your life.

This story in Luke 10 is a sibling moment (Luke 10:38-41). Jesus and his disciples entered a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed them into her home. And her sister Mary sat at Jesus feet and heard His words. Mary remained very present for this moment in her life, but Martha was distracted with much serving (Luke 10:40).

Martha wasn’t just busy; she was distracted. And she asked Jesus, “Don’t you care that my sister left me to do everything?” Would you do that if Jesus was at your house? Hey Jesus! Are you going to let my sister just sit there while I do all the work?

Martha was being very intentional, but according to Jesus, she was busy about the wrong things.

An intention comes down to moments that matter!

Jesus answered Martha, “Only one thing is needed right now. Mary chose to embrace the moment (Luke 10:42). At this moment Jesus is talking about identifying the critical difference between busy and distracted.
