The Five Essentials of Intentional Living

Faith

Faith is the core foundational part. Hebrews 11:1 defines faith as “being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” Faith is trusting in the unseen but not the unknown. You’ll see the evidence of God’s transformational power every day in the lives He impacts. This justifies you faith and gives you a sense of knowing assurance in His “unseen” reality.

Family / Relationships

Family is God’s idea. Genesis 2:24 says “a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.” The Bible is filled with family relationships, real people dealing with real problems through their faith in God. These accounts confirm that the family is created by and valued by Him. And you become a part of His family when you accept Jesus as your personal Savior.

Health

1 Corinthians 6:19 declares: “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you…You are not your own.” The Bible makes a big deal of immorality and sexual sin; they abuse the very residence of the Spirit of God. It follows, then, that if you abuse your health you’ll negatively impact your body and well-being. God encourages taking care of our bodies as His dwelling place.

Finances

Matthew 6:19-21 puts your attitude about money in perspective: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth…” Jesus said. “But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven…For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Work

Ephesians 6:5 says “serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men.” In the workplace, your attitude is to be one of selfless service, not rote duty and grudging obedience. As you serve God, look for ways to benefit others.
