Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. Hebrews 4:14 (NIV)
In Old Testament days, on the Day of Atonement the high priest would pass from the sight of the Israelites into the Most Holy Place of the tabernacle as a way to bring reconciliation between God and His people; to bring them back together.
In the same way, Christ passed from the sight of His disciples and ascended into His heavenly place, the work of bringing together man and God accomplished through His death and resurrection. Because of what Jesus has done, we can grasp what we believe as Christians with unwavering confidence; that it is true and will sustain us.
Is your faith slipping as a result of persistent doubt or tenacious temptation? Remember:
Christ was tempted in every way you are. (Hebrews 4:15)
His mercy and grace is available to us when we fall short. (Hebrews 4:16)
