The best leaders see themselves as servants – at home, at church, and certainly at the workplace.
Philip Pillsbury was grandson of Charles Pillsbury, co-founder of the famous flour-milling and food company. As chairman of the Pillsbury Co., Philip was known as a connoisseur of fine foods and wines. But he was also seen as one of the few executives who had a real knowledge of flour milling.
How could anyone tell? For one, the tips of three of Philip’s fingers were missing, an unmistakable mark of a journeyman grain miller. He was known to his workers as someone who was willing and able to do anything on the factory floor. A leader by example, he was okay with getting his hands dirty – or even chopped up.
Whatever your position at your workplace, God wants you to also lead by example, remembering the timeless adage from Colossians 3:23: “Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.” (NLT)
As you allow that biblical perspective to guide your thinking and your attitude, you’ll not only be the most productive worker at your job. You’ll be one that your co-workers draw from emotionally, and admire as they see God glorified through you!
