The Best Reasons to Volunteer in Your Community

Your community overflows with opportunities to volunteer. Your efforts will pay off by helping create a better community to live and work. You can bring a ray of hope into many lives.

If you’re not involved but would like to start, take a few minutes and think about what you have to offer. Your friends and neighbors will benefit, but so will you. You can expand your horizons by learning something a little different and by networking with new people.

There are many reasons for you to volunteer. Some of the best ones:

  • To give something back: If you’ve been blessed with success, share your knowledge and blessings.
  • For personal growth: Volunteering can provide new experiences, including learning new ideas and systems. Community service can help you build your resume. Possible future employers like to see people who are involved and passionate.
  • Friendship and belonging: You’ll meet exceptional friends, ones who share your passion. You’ll find networking opportunities, including people who will take an interest in you, and vice-versa.

You probably have many reasons of your own. But according to research, people say they were happier the more they volunteered.

Where can you go? Try contacting:

  • Places of worship, such as local churches;
  • Local hospitals;
  • Libraries or senior centers;
  • Services organizations such as Lions or Rotary clubs;
  • Youth organizations, sports teams and after-school programs;
  • Historic places of interest;
  • Non-profit groups, such as the food bank.

Whatever it may be, make a commitment to give of yourself and stay engaged.

30-Day Challenge

If you could do ONE THING and know that it would make a significant, lasting, possibly life-changing difference in your life, would you do it? Dr. Carlson shares the power of ONE THING and why you should get started doing your ONE THING today.
