Passing Down a Legacy of Faith
When Moses gathered the Israelites together to remind them that God’s laws are not just for the individual, living in the present, but are also meant to be passed down through generations, as a legacy for the future.

One of the most striking things Moses emphasized was the generational aspect of God’s laws. Moses was urging the Israelites to see the bigger picture. The laws were not just for them but for their children and their children’s children. It was a call to invest in the spiritual well-being of future generations, to ensure that the legacy of faith would continue long after they had entered the Promised Land.
God’s view goes way beyond our lifetime. It’s not just about us; it’s about the ripple effect of faithfulness that extends far beyond our own lifetimes.
In today’s context, this generational perspective is just as relevant. Whether we are parents, grandparents, mentors or spiritual leaders, we have a responsibility to pass down God’s laws and principles. It’s not just about our personal relationship with God; it’s about equipping the next generation to know Him, too.
If God tarries, when we’re gone, He’s seeing future generations. We have a responsibility to teach the next generation.
1. God’s intention is generational.
My mother used to say “It’s an investment we can make into the lives of people that we won’t be around to see, into a future we won’t be in.”
While we have a short perspective, we can allow Moses’ words serve as a reminder that our actions and choices today have long-term implications. When we invest in teaching the next generation about God’s laws, we’re not just passing down rules; we’re passing down a legacy of faith. We’re ensuring that our children, grandchildren and even those we mentor can enter their own “Promised Lands” equipped with the wisdom and guidance they need to thrive.
So, as we navigate the complexities of life, let’s not forget the generational impact of God’s laws. Let’s take the time to invest in the spiritual lives of those who come after us.
