Kelly wanted to be a mom for as long as she could remember. One night, she became very sick and went to the emergency room. She took medicine and eventually went to a series of doctors. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in October 1998. Her tumors were grapefruit sized. Doctors said she probably would not have children. “It was like life as I wanted it to be was over,” she said. The night before surgery, she prayed to God, pleading with Him to have a child. “I know you want what’s best for me,” she said, and agreed to trust Him. After surgery, some of her ovarian tissue remained, giving her hope for conception. She was pregnant with her first child in August 1999. ”Man told me I would not have children, and God told me I would have three.”
