Have you ever felt stuck in a rut, spinning your wheels but make little to no progress? The expression, “stuck in a rut,” alludes to having your tires stuck in a groove in the road that you and perhaps other travelers have repeatedly traveled.
In today’s blog, I’m sharing some practical and spiritual steps to help you break free from that rut and find hope. By acknowledging where you are, humbling yourself before God, and making intentional decisions, you can start experiencing real change and renewed purpose in your life. Let’s walk this journey together towards living intentionally and honoring Christ.
Feeling stuck in a rut can leave you feeling hopeless and directionless. But there’s a way out.
Here’s how you can take those first crucial steps:
1. Acknowledge and Humble Yourself
The first step to breaking free from any rut is to acknowledge where you are and humble yourself. It’s not easy, but it’s necessary.
*Richard, a young entrepreneur, called in to share his struggles. Despite his business successes, his personal life was falling apart. He admitted, “I built two multi seven-figure companies… but I failed to serve the Lord and my family.” His honesty about his mistakes was the first step towards healing.
I emphasized the importance of humility in this process and reminded Richard of the biblical principle found in James 4:10: “Humble yourself before the Lord, and he will lift you up” (NIV). Starting with humility allows you to recognize where you’ve gone wrong and opens the door for God’s guidance.
2. Intentional Decision Making
Change begins with an intentional decision. It’s about making a conscious choice to turn your life around, starting today.
Richard had the skills and intelligence to succeed in business, and he could apply those same principles to his personal life. “You start today by saying you’re a smart guy… So you start with that decision, your intentional decision to humble yourself before the Lord and he will lift you up.”
Here are some practical steps you can take:
- Set Clear Goals.
Decide what you want to change. Whether it’s improving your relationships, deepening your faith, or finding a new career path, clarity is key.
- Seek God’s Guidance.
Pray and read the Bible daily. Allow God’s word to guide your decisions.
- Take Small Steps.
Don’t try to change everything at once. Focus on one area and make consistent, small steps towards improvement.
3. Building Support Systems
You don’t have to go through this journey alone. Building a support system is crucial to sustaining your intentional decisions and helping you stay on track.
I advised Richard to find a community of supportive, godly men who could offer accountability and wisdom. I said, “Get some smart older Godly men around you who’ve been down the road who can become accountability and support partners for you in your life.”
Here’s how you can find support:
- Join a Church Group.
Being part of a church community can provide spiritual support and encouragement.
- Seek Out Mentors.
Find individuals who have the wisdom and experience to guide you. They can offer valuable insights and keep you accountable.
- Connect with Friends and Family.
Don’t underestimate the support of loved ones. Share your journey with them and let them support you.
You have the power to change your life. Take the first step today by acknowledging where you are, humbling yourself before God, and seeking out the support you need. You’ll be amazed at what God can do when you decide to live intentionally.
